How will the crisis among sub-prime borrowers affect the housing market and the overall economy?
Filed Under Renting & Real Estate | 2 Comments
The American economy is driven first and foremost by consumer spending. Some think that this crisis will trickle down into the rest of the economy and snag businesses and people who have poor credit ratings and limit everyone’s ability to finance large purchases, thus hurting those who are selling those large purchases, thus… well, you can see the dominos… Also, the net worth of the average consumer is sliding as the value of his home corrects. Others believe that this is far smaller than past crises such as the S&L shakedown during the 80’s. The economy then barely burbed. Please give me your opinion, and more importantly, direct me to an interesting article on the subject.
Oh, and one more thing, New Jersey, your property taxes are atrocious, and I’m leaving your economy by the end of the year.

I understand the basics of insurance. That is the transfer of risk. That insurance companies bet on getting more in premiums than they have to pay out in claims. What I’m trying to understand is, how deeply insurance, our ability to purchase it, affects our economy. Please if you could give me some answers regarding this or point me to a site where I can find more information it would be great.

What does the “Economy” option on a washing machine actually do?
Filed Under Cleaning & Laundry | 3 Comments
I have a standard Zanussi washing machine that is est. 10-15 years old. It has an “Economy” option.
All I can gather that this does is avoid using hot water from the house hot water tank and heats the water within the washer using an electric element.
As heating the water by electricity is both more expensive and more carbon intensive than heating it by gas - where is the economising?
Or am I incorrect in my assertation to what the “Economy” button does?

How do you think this economy will affect mentally challenged people such as myself?
Filed Under Economics | 2 Comments
As a retarded man seeking a new job, my concern is that employers will overlook me because I’m handicapped in pursuit of the “best of the best” (It well deserves the quotes because I see mentally challenged people as superior but that’s beside the point.) Do you see discrimination against the disabled on the rise in these tough times? I will do any kind of job I’m capable of doing. While I know that getting our economy fixed is top priority right now, we must not forget how important it is to be compassionate.
